MATH 217: Linear Algebra and Abstract Algebra

Course Description:

This is a linear algebra and abstract algebra course for honored students.  

(Math 217 is focused on linear algebra and Math 218 is focused on abstract algebra.)

Textbook:  Algebra, by Michael Artin, published by Prentice Hall, 1991.

Grading:

The grades of the course are based on the following (i) Homework (25%); (ii) Midterm  (25%); (iii) Final (50%).

Ch 1. Matrix Operations (3 weeks);  Ch 2 (S1-S6). Groups (3 weeks);  Ch 3 (S1-S4). Vector Spaces (2.5 weeks);

Ch 4 (S1-S6). Linear Transformation (3 weeks);  Ch 7 (S1-S5). Bilinear Forms (2.5 weeks).
