Course Description:
3 credit units. This is the first part of a one-year honors course on single-variable calculus, with strong emphasis on mathematical concepts and logical reasoning skills. Topics include: sequences and their limits, functions, continuity, extreme value theorem, intermediate value theorem, derivatives and differentiation rules, differentiability, mean value theorem, l’Hopital’s rule, Taylor expansion, and
applications of derivatives.


Prerequisites:
Level 5* or above in HKDSE Mathematics Extended Module M2.

Professor Min Yan's book, Calculus.

Grading Policy: no extra credit.
Homework: 10%
Midterm (150 minutes): 30% -- 13 October, 10:00am--12:30pm, LSK G012. 
Final Exam (180 minutes): 60% --08 December, 8:30am--11:30am, LG4 Student Common Rooms


Homework Policy
There will be a total of 10 weekly Homework, assigned on Wednesdays. Each homework is worth 1 point, for a total of 10 points.
Each homework assigned on Wednesday is DUE at 5:00pm in the Math 1023 Mailbox.
No late homework will be accepted.


Suggestions to students:
0. Learn to be disciplined!
1. Come to class on time.
2. Attendances are not mandatory but strongly recommended.
3. Read the textbook and do exercises before and after classes.
4. Turn off cell phones and keep quiet in class.
5. If you have to go to bathroom or leave early for some reason, just go quietly without interrupting others.
